Bartonsham Retirement Club

MEMBERS have enjoyed pleasant summer meetings. Our speakers have been entertaining. The outing to a local nursery and retail outlet was well supported. At the August meeting we indulged in a strawberry cream tea. Proceeds were donated to our charity, the MacMillan Renton Appeal.  more...

Bell Bank Blind and Partially Sighted Club

SEVERAL members travelled to the White House, Aberedw, where Linda Davies and friend kindly prepared and served a delicious tea. She was thanked and presented with a garden voucher. Linda also entertained us with her exercises to music. Members were invited by Aileen Burr to share an afternoon tea with her. During the afternoon a birthday cake and happy birthday was sung to John Lloyd. An afternoon was spent where members entertained each other. Vera Fairfax read a poem which she had written, and Dorothy Hanson and Peter Barber read some of their favourite stories and poems. Aileen B accommodated everyone at her home for an informative talk given by Jean Walford and Eleanor Reid about their trip to Russia. Betty thanked them both.  more...

FLOWER SHOW - The annual Moccas flower show was opened by Lawrie Whittall, who also presented the winning trophies. In his opening speech he referred to past flower shows dating from the 1960s and emphasised how wonderful it is to see these traditions being carried on today when our communities are changing so rapidly. Mr Whittall congratulated everyone on the high standard of entries, in all 393. Trophies were awarded to the following; vegetable section Maggie Venvil, domestic section Gill Whittall, flower section Maggie Venvil, craft section Francis Fletcher, longest runner bean Michael Sandford, children's section under nine Rachael Bradley and Zoe Whittall, children's section over nine Rhiannon Probert, best in show Paul Barber, highest overall points in show Maggie Venvil. We would also like to thank our local sponsors to the show, Wiggly Wigglers and Danmek Nurseries. Thanks also to the judges and all who made the show such an enjoyable village event.  more...
