Eastnor fail to keep the pressure on

From the Ledbury Reporter, first published Thursday 12th Jul 2007.

EASTNOR V WORCESTER NOMADS

DESPITE making a decent start with both bat and ball, Eastnor failed to keep the pressure on in either innings, and consequently fell to an 80-run defeat at home to Worcester Nomads in Division One of the Crusader Worcestershire County League.

Adeel bowled the Nomads opener with his first ball after his side elected to field after winning the toss, to give the home side a flying start.

Atiq replaced him and snared the other opener, stumped by Scott Roberts, in his second over. With Shahid bowling his first six overs for four runs off the bat, Nomads were restricted to 40-2 off the first 15 overs.

Former Eastnor player Danny Rees (53) joined Malcolm Jones (73) in a partnership of 117 to turn the fortunes in favour of the visitors. Shahid returned for eight overs at the end of the innings, and picked up five wickets to finish with figures of 5-26 off 14 overs. Tom Hurrell took the other wicket as Nomads finished on 223-8 at the close.

Faisal (16), Adeel (41) and Atiq put Eastnor in the driving seat, taking the score to 86-1 after 18 overs, but then two wickets fell to spinner G Taylor in the next over to put the game back in the balance. He repeated the feat four overs later and the home side were on the slide.

Shahid (25) and Christiaan Ferreira (19) gave them some hope with a stand of 40, but Taylor had the last word, wrapping up the innings of 143 in the 41st over to leave him with the excellent figures of 7-26 from 13.3 overs.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Eastnor travel to fellow Division One strugglers Pershore.
