St Owen Street restaurant plan approved

From the Hereford Times, first published Friday 30th Nov 2007.

PLANS to convert a private members' club in Hereford into a two-storey restaurant will go ahead despite objections from local residents.

The former premises of The Liquid Lounge and the Four Seasons retail unit on St Owen Street will be converted after Herefordshire councillors approved an application from developers Bindi (London) Ltd to renovate the 17th century Grade II listed building.

The planning committee meeting heard that 16 letters of objection had been received outlining concerns over environmental disturbance, noise nuisance, late-night anti-social behaviour and the lack of parking facilities.

But Herefordshire Council's environmental health manager had no objection to the scheme, which lies inside the city's conservation area, and both the Castle Street District Resident's Association and a Cantilupe Street resident, which adjoins St Owen Street, had sent letters supporting the plan.

Planning committee members recommended conditions to ensure the premises were cleared by midnight and that a takeaway facility was not made available.
