THE course at Cold Harbour, Monkland, has again been a magnet for plenty of runners for the North Ledbury Hunt point-to-point this Sunday.
Following the success of last weekend's meeting there, secretary Pauline Wallis has received 253 entries, though none of the original seven races on the card has yet been divided. It is a fairly safe bet that there will some divisions on the day, particularly the maiden events, one being over the traditional three miles, and one over two and a half miles.
This is the penultimate fixture for the area titles, and the battle for the John Panniers Memorial trophy for the leading rider in the Welsh Borders is breathtakingly close.
Last year's victor, Tim Stephenson is just heading the pack at the moment, but there are four riders in joint-second a hair's breadth behind.
Cold Harbour is popular with spectators with its natural grandstand providing excellent viewing, and local enthusiasts will be drinking their fill of the action between the flags to sustain them through the summer, as the Welsh Border season ends at Bredwardine on May 17.
