Postie earns tribute

From the archive, first published Thursday 2nd Oct 2003.

BROMYARD postman and champion fund-raiser Keith Lane has been out of action of late after suffering a stroke - but that didn't stop him celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary in style.

Keith and wife, Josephine, marked the ruby occasion at St Peter's Church by recreating their big day and even tracked down the best man, who they hadn't seen for more than 12 years.

"It was a lovely day," said Keith, who won an MBE for his services to the Bromyard community and his fantastic fund-raising efforts over the years.

Road to recovery

"The bride wore an almond pink dress and I had my grandson as a page boy and my grand daughter as a bridesmaid - it was splendid."

More than 150 guests packed the church for the service, which was followed by a reception at Bromyard Rugby Club.

The day was a fillip for Keith, whose 50th year as a postman received a setback when he suffered a stroke.

"I'm on the road to recovery and I hope to get back to work, but we'll have to wait and see," he said.

Nevertheless, Keith will still be making his annual cheque presentation to the County Air Ambulance on Saturday .

"I can't give the exact amount at this stage, but needless to say it will be for many thousands of pounds."
