May Hill stays hidden

A request to Newent Town Council to remove trees adjacent to a footpath to the rear of the Community School has been turned down. The reason for the request, submitted by a member of the public, was that the trees were blocking the view to May Hill. But town clerk Deirdre Rosser said: "The trees are healthy and councillors felt they could set a precedent if they agreed."   more...

Council backs request

A proposal to cut down a copper beech and a spruce tree in the Newent Conservation Area has won the backing of the town council. The work will be carried out at 15 Church Street, Newent, where outline planning permission has already been granted for a bungalow on the site. The reason for the request is that tree roots could interfere with foundations and drainage and the proposed bungalow would be in shade all day.   more...
