The new regional director of NFU West Midlands is to be David Collier, who was brought up in Staffordshire and whose first job with the NFU was in Tamworth.
David Collier will succeed current director Bob Forster, who retires at the end of November after eight years in the post.
The 46-year-old has been based in the NFU's north east regional office in York since 1989 and is currently the organisation's technical adviser for the north of England.
Mr Collier is a veteran of numerous campaigns, mainly on environmental and land use issues. Mr Collier, who starts in the West Midlands on December 2, said his experiences in the north would help him in his new role.
"If there is one lesson I have learned from my time in the north, it is that an organisation such as the NFU is at its most effective when its members and staff work closely together, in harmony and with clear objectives," said Mr Collier.
"My experience of dealing with major developments and of appearing at several public inquiries will also help us, particularly if we find ourselves having to deal with a new airport proposal in Warwickshire following the current review."
Mr Collier is looking forward to continuing the good work begun by Bob Forster on marketing and other economic initiatives benefiting numerous farmers and growers throughout the West Midlands.
He is married to Margot and they have three sons.
